Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (DACCPM) at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) consists of 82 faculty members in the ranks of Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors, and many Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students (fellowships, Residents and Students) and is one of the active and long-standing departments in the SBMU.

But the history of the formation of the group goes back to the 1960’s.

The first anesthesiology residency program in SBMU was established in the 1970’s; Dr. Ibrahim Dahim (Medical Council No. 1177) was the first one who passed his residency program under the direction of Dr. Abbas Majidi; he later became a faculty member of the Department. Among the first attending physicians of DACCPM, the following would be mentioned:

• Dr. Abbas Majidi (Iranian Medical Council No. 2674) graduated from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany; he passed away in 2021

• Dr. Mahin Asanloo (Iranian Medical Council No. 204), Graduated from Leipzig University Medical School; Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, affiliated to the Jorjani Hospital, 1346 to 1360

• Dr. Ebrahim Dahim (Iranian Medical Council No. 1977); the first resident graduated from DACCPM, SBMU; graduated in 1970 from Jorjani Hospital; he was affiliated to Taleghani Hospital at the rank of Assistant Professor

• Dr. Afifi, affiliated to the Shahid Modarres Hospital
